A girl once sat behind me

Arms wrapped around my heaving chest

Calmed my shoulders and breathed it in

All the hollow

It flooded down her cheeks and then

And we sat embracing

Came to laughing.

I think I’m holding a hollow again

But trying to calm your shoulders

forgetting how to use my arms for healing

Breathing in and holding

Sitting underwater

Listening to nothing and feeling as if it were forever

La la la la la…

Attempting to ignore the pressure in my chest

The outbreath

But every time

I think you’re drowning

You come to surface

Sucking air gratefully

Ears dripping with memory

I just needed to remember

I just wanted to remind you

Exhale, again.

Come to laughing

I am willing

to let this go
