Cracked earth in dusk framed by a brilliant sky
Horizon to horizon
Shining golden clouds give way to dark purple hues
Leaving faint whisps,
Foggy breaths in the last pale blue
Anorexic power poles dot the bare earth
One lonely wire to connect them
Warm breaths inhale faint smoke, and river, and wood and all the whole birds shriek incessantly
Light is fading,
Crescent moon rises,
Earth is cooling.
By day this heat is viscous,
Rising up from below the thick blanket of dirt and rippling down from neck-craning-massive sky.
Wise trees whisper to each other in the scrub
Eons of secrets pass between their rustling leaves
I wish I could see all they’ve seen.
